Chemung Racing Saturday This Week
by Carol Houssock

The management team at Chemung Speedrome reminds race teams and fans that there will be no racing this Friday night. Rather, Chemung will welcome everyone to a big show on Saturday, August 6th. The racing card includes the second 2016 appearance of the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions Tour for a 75-lap event. The track’s Super Stocks (25 laps), INEX Legends (20 laps) and Bandoleros (10 laps) will also be in action.

When the Tour ran in late May at Chemung Chuck Hossfeld picked up the win, just as he had done a year prior. In the 75-lap race he held off Patrick Emerling, Mike Leaty, TJ Potrzebowski and Daryl Lewis, Jr. for the win. Hossfeld is coming off his second Tour win two weeks ago at Spencer Speedway, and is chasing three-time 2016 winner Patrick Emerling in the points.

The Tour event is the Rod Spalding Classic. Rod, a former racer whose life changed forever in a racing accident, was a frequent visitor at Chemung. He passed away last year but his memory will live on forever through the Spalding Foundation for Injured Drivers. The charity raises funds to help offset costs incurred by injured drivers and crew members.

Pits will open on Saturday afternoon at 2 PM, with the grandstand gate opening at 4. Racing is set to begin at 6 PM. Chemung begins the program at an earlier time so that folks in the area for the Watkins Glen race can return to their campsites or other lodging a bit earlier.

Admission is $22 for adults, $20 for those ages 65 and older, $6 for kids ages 6-12, and free for kids ages 5 and under. Adults and seniors who attended the last regular show at Chemung can bring their ticket stub for $3 off admission this Saturday.

For more information log on to the track’s website, www.chemungspeedrome.net, or ‘like’ Chemung Speedrome – Racing at the Drome on Facebook. You can also call the track at 607-529-9998.
