Chemung Looking Ahead To 2014 With Off Season Improvements
By: Ray Hodge
2013 season came to an end at the track Championship Banquet
in November. Track owner John White, very happy with the
2013 season is already looking ahead to the 2014 season with
some big Improvements at the track during the off season.
A brand new 40 by 60 foot multi-purpose Tech and Storage building has
been completed. The building is located outside of turn 3
and 4 in the Legend pit area. The building is a much needed
addition to the Speedrome and will be put to work right away
in 2014. The 16 foot high building was originally slated to
be erected in the infield but after a lot of consideration,
the plan was changed to put the building outside of the
track so that fans would still have an open view of the
entire track. This will also be a great addition for
equipment storage as well as the new Chemung Speedrome
ambulance purchased right after the 2013 season. The track
ambulance is a great addition so that the track will always
have an ambulance on site and will not have to delay the
start of practice and racing action on any given night
waiting for the ambulance to arrive at the track.
At the beginning of 2013, John White set up his summer home at the track
with the intent of putting all of his time and effort into
Chemung and with hard work from John and Kathy (Grodski) the
season was a huge success. Speaking with John at the
banquet, a big issue during every off season every year are
rumors. A big rumor John put to rest early is that Chemung
“will” be a NASCAR sanctioned track again in 2014. The
NASCAR sanction is big for the track and competitors so it
was good to put that to rest early. Again in 2014, INEX will
return as the sanctioning body for the Legend and Bandolero
divisions as well. The schedule for 2014 is promised to be
bigger and better with some big additions to include the
addition of a big season ending race weekend. "We made some
big strides in 2013" White said, car counts, fan counts and
just all around great racing has given White and the entire
staff the desire to make next season even better.
Some other improvements the track will be making, the hospitality suites
in the track tower will be available weekly for businesses
or race teams who wish to lease them for the night. The P.A.
system will be given some TLC for better hearing for fans as
well as the drivers and crews in the pits. Also on the list
is the possibility of a new transponder scoring system.
There is an excellent system in the works that is not ready
for use right now, John says he does not want to put in a
system that will become obsolete in a few years, once the
new system is approved to be sold, that will be the
direction he will go.
The track concession stand had a very good season as well and will return
in 2014 with the same operator. There will be some additions
to the menu as well as the return of track favorite salt
taters and much, much more.
