Chemung Speedrome Welcomes Summer
By: John Flock

Chemung will celebrate the first day of summer this Friday, June 21st. The NASCAR sanctioned facility will present a special double-point event for the 4-cylinder Stocks. The young drivers will test their skills and the reliability of their racing machines in a 20-lap event. The Sunoco Modifieds (40), Super Stocks (25), INEX Legends (20), INEX Bandoleros (8), and the dirt track Crate Sportsman Modifieds will fill out racing program for the welcome to summer program.

Another great racing program is offered on Friday June 28th. Rounding out the month of June, Chemung will present the Sunoco Modifieds, Super Stocks, 4-Cylinder Stocks, Legends, Bandoleros, and the dirt track Crate Sportsman Modifieds. All track classes will race for double points on this night. We will welcome the NYPA Midgets (TQ Midgets) for a great night of racing. The Western NY based NYPA Midgets are speedy open wheel cars that are well suited for the Chemung track. Race Director John Veach brings in his experienced team and promises great racing. Two weeks ago, NYPA Midgets ran their first road trip to Lake Erie Speedway. Just over 20 TQ Midget teams make the tow. Owner John White stated that there will be no increase in regular admission prices. Adults are $12, seniors (65+) $10, kids 6-12 $5, and 5 and under are always free.

Pit gates open at 4:00 p.m., grandstand and practice open at 6:00 p.m., and race time is 7:15 sharp. The Speedrome is located off exit 59 of US 17 (I-88). See our web site www.ChemungSpeedrome.net for further information. The race day telephone is (607) 529-9998.
