Chemung Speedrome Announces 2013 Special Events
By: John Flock

Chemungís season opening event presents the Race of Champions Asphalt Modified tour. The Sunday, May 5th afternoon race will cover a distance of 75 laps. Andrew Harpell will lead the RoC Modified tour to their annual visit at Chemung. Joining the fun will be the popular Super Stocks, INEX Legends, and the 4-Cylinder racers. The pre-season test and tune session is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, May 4th. Several RoC Modified teams are expected to dial in their Modifieds for the RoC race the next day.

Scheduled NASCAR events begin on Friday, May 10th at 7:30 pm. The Sunoco Modifieds open their points chase with twin-25 lap features. Increased purses for the Sunoco Modifieds and Super Stock divisions are posted on the trackís web site. No other changes to purse structures have been released.

Headlining weekly events, the Sunoco Modifieds are expected to produce a solid increase in car counts. The track expects area racers like Zach Curran, Jody Buckley, T. J. Potrzebowski, rookie Frank Morich, Jeff Frisbee, and Darin Scherer to join the ranks of Sunoco Modifieds.

There is a possibility that the Sharpsteen brothers (Charlie, Gill, and Lee) may add to the list of Super Stock drivers. John and Joe Lane, Chuck Nichols, Jason Duke and many others are expected to visit Chemung Speedrome this season.

The newly redefined 4-cylinder division should bring a new field of drivers to Chemung. Using the basic rules from Spencer Speedway, the class has returned to entry level status. These new rules have been added to the Speedrome web site.

INEX Legends track and national champion Matt Pappa has moved on to the Brett Hearn driver development program. Other top Legend racers Brandon DeBrakeleer, Jimmy Zacharias, nationally ranked Raven Schrantz and Brandon Michael should return to battle for the track title. The youth INEX Bandoleros division champion, Nick Morich, narrowly beat out top feature winner David French by a slim margin. Nick will pilot a 4-cylinder entry along with racing his Bandoleros championship racer.

INEX National Qualifying events for Legends and Bandoleros will be featured on July 2nd at Spencer Speedway, and on August 9th at the Speedrome.

The dirt-track Crate Sportsman Modifieds featured track champion Casey Pavlick, Dale Welty, Chris Brockway, Allison Pierce, AJ Potrzebowski, and Loren Lincoln in the 2012 season. Speedway officials are hoping for stronger numbers in this fan-favorite division.

Many special events are scheduled, including USAC Ford Focus Midgets, kidís race car rides, Midstate Antique racers, and a special appearance of McGruff The Crime Dog and his bicycle & helmet Give-A-Way.
