Matt Hirschman Wins Chemung RoC 125
By: Steve Petty
Northampton, Pennsylvania ace and
2010 Race of Champions Tour Champion Matt
Hirschman won his fourth straight Race of
Champions Modified Tour victory as he won
the 125 lap affair Sunday afternoon at the
Chemung Speedrome. Other winners at the
‘Drome included Matt Pappa from Nassau, NY
in the INEX Legends Regional Qualifier
event. Pappa will be representing Chemung in
the INEX National Legends event in October
in Atlanta. Brittany Jack from Waverly, NY
won her first Super Stock feature of the
season while Gene Purvis and David French
added to their win totals in the 4 Cylinders
and INEX Bandoleros respectively.
“My crew did an amazing job getting this car ready for me today and we
had an amazing car and we have been on an
amazing streak and its just awesome winning
here” said Hirschman in victory lane. “I am
on an incredible streak and we just take it
one track at a time and one race at a time”
Hirschman continued.
Matt Hirschman and TJ Potrzebowski led the stout field of 24 modifieds to
the green flag for their 125 lap feature
event and it was Hirschman getting out into
the early race lead. Ransomville, NY
resident and defending RoC Series Champion
Chuck Hossfeld started eight on the grid and
was up to fifth by the end of lap number
seven. The first caution came out just
eleven laps in as Horesheads competitor Jody
Buckley spun in turn one. On the restart,
Chuck Hossfeld went from fifth to third in a
matter of a turn as he went three wide with
Jimmy Zacharias and Brian DeFebo to take over third and then put the pass
on Potrzebowski to take over second just two
laps later. Hossfeld would try everything in
his power and did pass Hirschman but the
lead did not last long for the “Hotshoe” as
Hossfeld would get passed by Hirschman
moments later.
“He had a strong car today and my car was good but not as good or fast as
Mattie” said third place finisher Chuck
Hossfeld.
Jim Storace would loop his 47 machine on lap 29 to bring out the caution
once again. The restart saw Hirschman and
Hossfeld going side by side as Erick Rudolph
was on the move. The third generation driver
from Ransomville, NY worked from his ninth
starting spot and was up to third on lap 46
after passing “the Piranha” TJ Potrzebowski.
Jimmy Zacharias had mechanical problems and came to a stop in his
Zacharias Motorsports machine on the top
side of turns one and two to slow the field
down on lap 56. On the restart it continued
to be Hirschman in the lead as Hossfeld and
Rudolph went on pit road for a new right
rear tire.
On the restart it was a long green flag run as Hirschman and Kyle
Ebersole and Hossfeld would pull away from
the field. Hossfeld, Ebersole and Rudolph
all went into the pits and changed right
rear tires as Hirschman stayed out for the
entire distance.
“I gave it all that I had and I took my chance of going underneath Matt
and my car just didn’t stick” said runner up
finisher and multi-time tour winner this
season Kyle Ebersole.
Hirschman would drive on to score his fourth straight tour win over
Ebersole, Hossfeld, Rudolph and DeFebo. The
Race of Champions Modified Tour will return
to action in September with the running of
the US Open at Dunn Tire Raceway Park in
Lancaster, NY. For more information, log on

Mike Alcaro and Matt Pappa led the field of INEX Legends to the green
flag for their 30 lap regional qualifier and
it was Alcaro leading the opening circuit.
Alcaro and multi-time feature winner Matt
Pappa would go side by side for several laps
with Pappa getting the lead on lap 10, just
as Larry Faucett would come to a stop in
turn three to bring out the caution.
On the restart, Pappa and Alcaro continued to be the classes of the field
as the two young competitors continued to
run up front and Pappa would go on to win
the INEX Legends Regional qualifying
victory.
John Lane and Cricket Clonch led the field of Super Stocks to the green
flag and it was Lane out to the early race
advantage. Brittany Jack would challenge
Lane for the lead on lap six and waited
until lap 15 to grab the lead away from Lane
after several laps of going side by side.
Jack would go on to win her first Super
Stock feature of the season.
Cody Jackson and Teddy Bowen led the Bandoleros to the green flag for
their 10 lap feature event with Teddy Bowen
out to the early lead. Nick Morich and Cody
Jackson came together in turn two. Morich
was alright and Jackson took the ride in the
ambulance for precaution. After the red
flag, Alex McCollum and David French put on
a great show and it was French holding off
McCollum for his sixth of the season.
