Cricket Clonch has Dandy Day at Chemung
Speedromee
By: Steve Petty
Cain, Pennsylvania’s Cricket Clonch
won his first career feature in the Super
Stocks at the Chemung Speedrome under sunny
skies on a picturesque Sunday afternoon in
the Twin Tiers. In other action at the
‘Drome, Candor, NY star Jimmy Zacharias and
Tonawanda, NY ace Andy Jankowiak split the
twin 25’s for the Sunoco Modifieds. For
Zacharias, it was his third win of the
season at the ‘Drome while Jankowiak scored
his first in his first career start at the
Southern Tier oval. Matt Pappa, Gene Purvis
and David French all continued their winning
ways in the INEX Legends, Mini Stocks and
Bandolero divisions respectively. “Racey”
Casey Pavlik won the showcase for the Crate
DIRT Sportsman.
Mike Odwazny and Andy Jankowiak led the field of SUNOCO Modifieds to the
green flag for their first of two twin 25’s
with Jankowiak out to the early lead. TJ
Zacharias looped his 17 on lap one to bring
out the caution. On the restart it was Jimmy
Zacharias taking command with an inside move
on Jankowiak to grab the lead. Zacharias
took command and never looked back picking
up his third win of the season over Andy
Jankowiak and TJ Zacharias.
In the second twin 25 lap feature, Jimmy Zacharias and Andy Jankowiak led
the field to the green flag and the lead was
being swapped several times between the top
two. Jimmy got loose and spun on lap number
11 to bring out the caution. On the restart,
Jankowiak pulled away with TJ Zacharias
right behind him. Jimmy got around his
brother and began chasing down Jankowiak, a
second generation driver who is currently
the points leader at the Holland Motorsports
Complex. Jankowiak was able to hold off the
Zacharias brothers to win his first career
feature at the Chemung Speedrome.
John Lane and Jimmy Zacharias led the field of Super Stocks to the green
flag with Lane taking the early lead.
Contact was made off turn four between the
front row sitters as Lane hit the front
stretch wall and Zacharias got turned
around. Both cars went to the pits as only
Zacharias was able to continue.
Last week’s feature winner Terry
Potrzebowski took over the lead from Cricket
Conch just before the halfway mark and was
on his way to score his second straight win,
but his car went up in smoke on lap 19.
Clonch had the lead on the restart and held
off Joe Lane and Derrick Tarbox to score the
win.
Alexandria Smith and Todd McCollum led the field of INEX Legends to the
green flag in their 20 lap feature with
McCollum leading the opening circuit on the
Chemung 3/8th’s oval. Heat winner Raven
Schrantz took over the second spot from
Smith at the end of lap number two. The
first caution came out on lap number six as
John “Shakin” Bacon lost the handle of his
Chemung Soft Water 76 in turn four. On the
restart Matt Pappa took the lead on lap 7
but McCollum was right there challenging for
the lead. Michael Maresca lost the handle of
his 22 ride in turn number two to bring out
the caution on lap 11. Pappa would continue
to show the way on the restart and picked up
his seventh win of the season. McCollum
would finish in second and he was followed
to the line by Raven Schrantz, Brandon
Michael and Brett Coon.
Gene Purvis, Frank Morich and Bubba Peters raced in the Mini Stocks
feature and Purvis was able to pick up his
second straight feature win.
Casey Pavlik and Dale Welty competed in the
feature event for the DIRT Crate Sportsman
and it was Pavlik picking up his first ever
win on the pavement.
Alex McCollum and Nick Morich led the field of Bandoleros to the green
flag in their 10 lap feature distance with
McCollum out to the early race lead. David
French took over the lead on lap number two
from McCollum and pulled away from the
field. Teddy Bowen looped his 47 machine to
slow the field down on lap number four. The
restart saw David French and Alex McCollum
pull away from the field and lead duo stoll
the show and French held on for his third
win of the season over McCollum and Nick
Morich.
The entire staff and management of the Chemung Speedrome would like to
congratulate all the graduates and best of
luck with their future endeavors. Racing
