Jimmy Zacharias, Terry and AJay
Potrzebowski, and Matt Pappa Big Winners on
Big Day at Chemung Speedrome

The sun was shining on Father’s Day
at the Chemung Speedrome as a couple of
first timer’s made their first appearance of
the season to victory lane. On the 3/8th’s
oval it was Jimmy Zacharias from Candor, NY
taking top honors in the Sunoco Modifieds.
In the first appearance of the season for
the Crate DIRT Sportsman it was AJay
Potrzebowski taking the checkered flag. The
Super Stock winner was Terry Potrzebowski
while Nassau, NY star Matt Pappa won the
INEX Legends feature and David French won
the INEX Bandoleros. Gene Purvis took the
victory in the Mini Stocks.
Jimmy Zacharias and Mike Odwazny led the field of Sunoco Modifieds to the
green flag and it was Zacharias out to the
lead. On the races second lap, TJ Zacharias
would pass Odwazny for second as did
Brittany Jack for third. Jimmy and TJ
Zacharias pulled away from Brittany Jack and
gave the fans a battle of the brothers for
the top spot for much of the feature
distance and Jimmy picked up his ninth total
feature win and second straight at the
Chemung Speedrome over brother TJ Zacharias,
Brittany Jack, Mike Odwazny and Matt
Clemens.
AJay Potrzebowski, Casey Pavlick and Chris Brockway competed in the first
Crate Sportsman event of 2012 at Chemung and
it was Potrzebowski taking home the win.
Brittany Jack and Milton Price led the field
the green flag for the Super Stocks and it
was Jack out to the early lead. Last week’s
feature winner John Lane got underneath
Price for second on the opening lap.
The yellow came out on lap 10 after contact was made between Price and
Terry Potrzebowski on the back stretch and
Potrzebowski ended up facing “the wrong way
on a one way street”. The top four all
jammed up in turn four on the restart as
Jack and Lane made contact and as a result,
Milton Price and Cricket Clonch led the
field back to the green flag on lap number
11 with Clonch taking the lead on the top
side of the speedway.
Terry Potrzebowski took over second from Milton Price on lap 13 and on
lap 16, took over the lead and Potrzebowski
would win his first victory of 2012 over
Cricket Clonch, Milton Price, John Lane and
Hank Buchanan rounded out the top five.
Heat winners Raven Schrantz and Todd
McCollum led the field of INEX Legends to
the green flag and it was Schrantz out to
the early lead. Last week twin-15 feature
winner Matt Pappa went three-wide with
Schrantz and McCollum to take over the lead
when the field came back to the start finish
line to complete the first lap.
The caution came out on lap seven as Thomas Baker spun in turn four and
suffered a broken rear end. Alex Bowen laid
down fluid just one lap later to bring out
the yellow once again. The lap eight restart
saw Pappa and McCollum lead the field back
to the green flag with Pappa showing the
way.
Raven Schrantz’s strong run came to an end on lap 11 as her 144 machine
went off in a puff of smoke. Matt Pappa
would pull away after the restart to take
his third win of 2012 at the Chemung
Speedrome. Todd McCollum would finish second
and he was followed to the line by Brandon
DeBrakeleer, Matt Evans and Jimmy Zacharias.
Gene Purvis and Frank Morich battled it out for the Mini Stock victory of
the day and it was a good side by side
battle for much of the shootout and it was
Gene Purvis getting his first win of the
season.
The Bandoleros took to the speedway as David French and Alex McCollum
were on the front row and it was French out
to the early lead. McCollum tried everything
in his power to try and get around French
but was unsuccessful. Teddy Bowen brought
out the lone yellow of the event on lap
seven. French was able get his second win of
2012 over Alex McCollum, Nick Morich, Max
Evans and Teddy Bowen.
Racing returns to the ‘Drome on Sunday June 24th as the Sunoco Modifieds
will be featured in twin 25’s as both
features will be the first two races of the
Holland/Spencer/Chemung Upstate Pro
Modifieds Series. The Super Stocks, Mini
Stocks, INEX Legends and Bandoleros will all
be on the racing card.
The Chemung Speedrome is the Southern Tier’s NASCAR Race Place every
Sunday afternoon starting at 2:15pm
featuring the Sunoco Modifieds, Super
Stocks, Mini Stocks, INEX Legends and INEX
Bandoleros. Pit Gates open at 11:30AM and
the grandstand gates open at 1:00pm. For
