Jimmy Zacharias Doubles Down at Chemung
Speedrome Twin 30's

On a
beautiful sunny day, the Chemung Speedrome
was back in action on Father’s Day June
19th with five divisions of jam-packed
racing action.
The
Bandoleros were the first to get the day
started with Anthony Riforgiato claiming the
win over David French.
The Sunoco
Modifieds were next out onto the ‘Drome
for the first of their Twin 30’s. By the
luck of the draw, Rusty Smith started on the
pole with Daren Scherer to his outside.
Scherer took the early lead coming off turn
2 and left Smith to battle with JR Kent and
Jimmy Zacharias close behind. Kent got by
Smith and then battled with Scherer and took
the top spot away on lap 16. One lap later,
Brandon Ameigh spun off turn 4 bringing the
field to caution. On the restart Kent and
Jimmy Zacharias battled side by side for
four laps until the caution flew again for
Ameigh and Brittney Jack in turn 1.
Zacharias worked his magic again, taking the
lead on lap 22 and going on to claim his
third straight Sunoco Modified feature win.
Kent took 2nd, followed by TJ Potrzebowski,
Rusty Smith, and Daren Scherer.
The hot
racing action continued with a nice field of
INEX Legends. Cody Frantz and Raven Schrantz
led the field to green for their 20 lap
feature event. Frantz jumed out to an early
lead until a caution on lap 6 slowed the
field. On the restart, Daren Scherer pulled
the Binghamton Mets #3 into the lead with
Mike Alcaro charging from a last place
starting position in a backup car moving
into 2nd. Scherer and Alcaro would battle it
out until contact in turn 3 of the final lap
sent Alcaro spinning and Scherer on to the
win. Cody Frantz held on for second,
followed by AJ Griffin, Raven Schrantz, and
Van Michael rounding out the top five.
The Super
Stocks were all revved up and ready to do
battle next for their feature event. It was
an all Potrzebowski front row with last
weeks Super Stock winner Terry on the pole
and Jeremy on the outside. The two
Potrzebowski’s battled door to door until
Terry edged out into the lead. Jeff Goodwin
was charging to the front but made contact
spinning Jeremy Potrzebowski and Mike
Nichols in turn 1, Goodwin was sent to the
rear for the contact. Up front, Terry
Potrzebowski checked out and claimed his
second Super Stock victory in a row, Jeremy
Potrzebowski recovered from his spin to
finish 2nd, John Lane came home 3rd, with
Goodwin and Terry Ostrander rounding out the
top five.
The 4
Cylinder Mini Stocks were next to the ‘Drome
for some wild racing action as Archie Haner,
Tony Gullo, and Milton Price all took turns
leading the field. Price took command on lap
15 and went on for the win until his car
failed post-race inspection giving the win
to Haner. Gullo claimed 2nd, Gene Purvis
3rd, Phil Haner 4th, and Frank Merich 5th.
Finishing
out the Father’s Day racing action at the
‘Drome was the second of the Sunoco
Modified twin 30’s. After inverting the
top 8 finishers from the first feature,
Brandon Ameigh and Curtis Cowles found their
way to the front row to lead the field to
green. The action was crazy on the starts
and it took many attempts to complete lap 1.
By lap 4, Daren Scherer made his way into
the lead with JR Kent, Lee Sharpsteen, and
Jimmy Zacharias all in contention. Matt
Clemens brought out a caution at lap 10 and
Zack Curren another one on lap 11 when he
made contact with the backstretch wall. On
lap 16, Zacharias moved past Kent into 2nd
and set his eyes on Scherer for the lead. On
lap 23, Zacharias completed the pass for the
lead and went on to win his second Sunoco
Modified event of the day. Scherer finished
2nd, JR Kent 3rd, Lee Sharpsteen 4th, and
Rusty Smith 5th.
Racing
action will return to the Chemung Speedrome
this Friday night June 24th for the
Mid-Season Championships with double points
for all divisions. The Sunoco Modifieds will
headline the night with a 50 lap feature
event, Super Stocks (30), 4 Cylinders (20),
INEX Legends (20), and Bandoleros (8).
Racing action is set to begin at 7:15pm.
