The Chemung
Speedrome was back in action on Friday night
June 10th with “Pack the Track Night.” A
nice crowd was on hand to witness the racing
action of week 2 at the ‘Drome.
The
Bandolero division was in action for the
first time in 2011. Anthony Reforgiato
claimed the victory over David French in the
8 lap feature.
The INEX
Legends were next to take to the asphalt at
the ‘Drome. A great battle up front for
the lead between Richie Vanderpool, Jimmy
Zacharias, and Mike Alcaro got the action
going. By lap 5, Alcaro had finalized the
pass for the lead and started to pull away
from the field. The caution flew as Barry
Schrantz collected the turn 2 wall and sent
him and Bethany Scherer to the pits for the
remainder of the event. Alcaro went on to
take the win with Daren Scherer in second,
followed by Brandon DeBrakeleer, Jimmy
Zacharias, and AJ Griffin in the top 5.
The Super
Stocks were now ready to make their way onto
the track. Terry Potrzebowski jumped out to
an early lead and left Jeff Goodwin and Mike
Nichols to do battle for second. Nichols and
Goodwin rubbed fenders and swapped positions
back and forth until Nichols checked out to
chase down Potrzebowski. Nichols closed the
gap quickly until his brakes got hot
allowing Potrzebowski to maintain his lead
and close out the win. Nichols came home
second, followed by Goodwin, John Lane, and
Terry Ostrander.
The 4
Cylinder Mini Stocks were next to excite the
crowd during their feature event. Tony Gullo
made his way to the lead early in the event,
but last week’s winner Milton Price was on
the charge. Price ran Gullo down and got
under Gullo coming off turn 4 to take the
lead. Price went on to win his second
feature in a row, followed by Gullo, Gene
Purvis, Phil Haner, and Joe Lane rounding
out the top 5.
The Sunoco
Modifieds were last to take center stage of
the ‘Drome for a 40 lap feature event. Lee
Sharpsteen and Rusty Smith led the field to
the green flag to get the action started.
Sharpsteen led the field with Jimmy
Zacharias moving into second, with Smith and
TJ Potrzebowski close behind. Sharpsteen
held the lead until lap 5 when Zacharias
made his move and took the lead. Zacharias
pulled away from the field and took the win
in a caution free 40 lapper. Rusty Smith got
by Sharpsteen for second, Sharpsteen
finished third, and TJ Potrzebowski and JR
Kent closed out the top 5.
The Chemung
Speedrome will return to racing action this
Sunday, June 19th at 2:15 pm. The ‘Drome
will be closed this Friday, June 17th for
ROC Modified racing action at the Spencer
Speedway in Williamson, NY. Sunday’s
action at the ‘Drome will be jam packed
with Sunoco Modified twin 30’s, Super
Stocks, INEX Legends, 4Cylinder Mini Stocks,
and Bandoleros. Hope to see you all this
Sunday at the Chemung Speedrome!
