Al Chapman Wins Chemung Mod Feature and Dash for
Cash
(Chemung, NY) The weather wasn’t the only thing that was hot Friday night at WilliamsAutoGroup.com presents Chemung Speedrome. Al Chapman, with a fresh motor in the Dan Kurzejewski-owned #21, parked in the Horseheads Pick-A-Part Victory Lane twice - first for winning the winner-take-all Dash for Cash (for drivers with no 2010 wins) and then for winning the second 30-lap feature. Tony Hanbury won the first Modified feature. Other winners on Advance Auto Parts night included Mike Nichols (Street Stocks), Brittany Jack (SS Dash for Cash), Mike Alcaro (INEX Legends), Archie Haner (4 Cylinders), and Zack Keeney (FWD 4 Cylinders).
Tony Hanbury, point leader in the NASCAR Sunoco Modified division, added to that lead over Jimmy Zacharias following his win in the first of two 30-lap features and a disappointing 9th place finish for Zacharias. Earlier in qualifying Zacharias had picked up 5 points for his heat race win, but saw those added points disappear. This one was classic Hanbury, working his way through the pack to the front. Jr Kent, Al Chapman, Zach Truesdail and Zack Curren all posted top-5 finishes in the first race. Bobby Osgood, whose night ended early with a broken part, won the other heat race.
Al Chapman, who entered the 2nd race with 3 top 5’s in his 6 previous appearances, now has a number 1 in the win column. In this one it was a restart following a lap 11 caution that changed the outcome. Race leader Jr Kent had Chapman alongside for the restart. Chapman snookered him and took the lead, a lead he then had to protect in subsequent restarts. Kent could go no further and, with Hanbury running 3rd, it was the same trio up front as in the first race. Jimmy Zacharias finished 4th with Zach Truesdail 5th. Chapman became the 4th different feature winner in the 9 races run so far this year.
The sometimes-controversial Street Stocks focused on a good, competitive 25-lap race. The most dramatic moment came when Terry Ostrander slipped on the start and backed up the outside line. With nowhere to go, Jeff Goodwin got into the Brittany Jack #6 and both headed to the pits. Goodwin’s crew changed his flat tire, while Jack went down a couple laps for repairs. This one belonged to Mike Nichols, who parked in victory lane for the 5th time in 9 events. Terry Potrzebowski came home 2nd, followed by Goodwin, Brandon Ameigh and Ken Evans. Potrzebowski and Goodwin won the two heat races. Brittany’s revenge came in the Dash for Cash, a race she won to the delight of the crowd.
A late-race multi-car pileup in the 25-lap INEX Legends feature changed the outcome of the race for Mike Alcaro. Restarting 16th following a late caution, he rallied to his 7th win in 8 appearances. Justin Petcosky’s 2nd place finish tightens the points battle with leader Richie Vanderpool. Matt Priscott finished 3rd, followed by Andrew Stotler and Brandon Michael. Alcaro and Petcosky won the 2 heat races.
A week ago Archie Haner retired from the 4 Cylinder feature with extensive damage to his car. Friday night he bounced back and won their 20-lap feature, his 2nd win this year. Haner finished ahead of point leader Gene Purvis, Joe Lane, Frank Morich and Phil
Haner.
Zack Keeney scored his 5th win in the FWD division. When he’s been there, he has yet to be beaten. Clayton Weaver was 2nd his first time out, followed by point leader Kurtis Benjamin.
