Chemung Speedrome 2010 Press Releases

June 4th, 2010
Hanbury Back in Chemung Victory Lane; Emotional Street Stock Win for Goodwin - by Carol Houssock

(Chemung, NY) “Fast track” describes Chemung Speedrome itself, plus the way track management ran through the program Friday night to beat the approaching green blob on the radar screen. The result was a completed program in 3 hours and some memorable moments for drivers and fans alike on Whelen night. Victories went to Tony Hanbury (NASCAR Sunoco Modifieds), Jeff Goodwin (Street Stocks), Mike Alcaro (a pair in the INEX Legends), Archie Haner (4 Cylinders) and Zack Keeney (RWD 4 Cylinders).

Zach Truesdail capitalized on his outside pole starting position in the 40-lap NASCAR Sunoco Modified feature but Justin Petcosky was right there watching his every move. Petcosky took the lead n the 5th lap and had his best run of the year going. Tony Hanbury, who had started 5th, got up to 2nd and made what was his race-winning pass on the 17th lap. Once in front he pretty much checked out, leaving the others to battle for top 5 finishes. It appeared Petcosky would finish 2nd in this one, but when he slipped with 2 to go both Bobby Osgood and Rusty Smith got around him. Hanbury cruised to his 4th win of the year, this time over Osgood, Smith, Petcosky and Jr Kent. Petcosky and Truesdail won the 2 qualifying races.

The 25-lap Street Stock feature provided plenty of memories. Chris Daugherty and point leader Mike Nichols won the two heats, and handicapping placed Ken Evans and Terry Potrzebowski on the front row for the start of their 25-lap feature. Potrzebowski led early with Goodwin a close second. For most of the race the “fearsome foursome” (Potrzebowski, Goodwin, Daugherty and Nichols) ran well together in a 4-car breakaway. Goodwin got around Potrzebowski on the 6th lap and maintained the race lead until the checkered flag flew over the field. An emotional Jeff Goodwin greeted his father, who has a terminal health issue, in the Horseheads Pick-A-Part Victory Lane. For them, June 4th was Father’s Day, celebrated in the perfect place. Daugherty finished 2nd, with Nichols, Potrzebowski and Terry Ostrander in the top 5.

INEX Legends driver Mike Alcaro continues to prove himself a winner in every sense of the word. Coming in to Friday’s program he was undefeated in 4 prior visits. He left with that record intact, having claimed both ends of the twin-15’s. In the first race Alcaro had his work cut out for him. Starting 12th, what the fans saw was a driving clinic as he methodically disposed of the competition one at a time. Cody Frantz and Van Michael led the first half of the race, but the second half belonged to Alcaro. He finished ahead of Justin Petcosky, Matt Priscott, Richie Vanderpool and Art Priscott.
The top 5 INEX Legends were inverted for the 2nd 15-lap race. In this one Vanderpool powered his way around Art Priscott for the lead. It was short-lived, however, as Alcaro was right there and took over the top spot on the 3rd lap. The battle was then on for 2nd on back. Still undefeated at Chemung this year, Alcaro finished this one ahead of Petcosky, Art Priscott, Vanderpool and Matt Priscott.

In 4 Cylinder action Joe Lane got the better of Gene Purvis at the start and he led the first 4 laps of 20 laps. Archie Haner then had to deal with Purvis, and did. From lap 5 on the racers were chasing Haner, who held on for his first win this year. Heat winner Purvis finished 2nd, ahead of Lane, Phil Haner and Frank Morich.

Zach Keeney remains undefeated in his RWD 4 Cylinder, picking up his 4th win on a night that included lap sponsorship money. Heat winner Jeremiah Clonch finished this one 2nd.
