Chemung Opener Postponed Until May
10th
by Carol Houssock
(Chemung, NY) Race teams and fans will have to wait one more week for racing action at Chemung Speedrome. Track owners Bob Stapleton and John White made the call to cancel the season opener by 9 AM on Saturday. Finding the grounds and parking lot extremely wet, and with more rain predicted all day and into the night, they had no choice.
Everyone was geared up for the opener following last weekend’s successful practice session. Over 50 cars tested and tuned in anticipation of the first competitive green flag laps. Fans in attendance last weekend did get their first glimpse at things to come, and left assured of an exciting and action-packed season to come.
This Saturday it’s a regular 7-division show to open up the 2008 season. The Nascar Weekly Modifieds headline the action, joined by the new North East Lites, the Super Stocks, 4 Cylinders, INEX Legends, Speedrome Juniors and the Bandoleros. Pits open at 4 PM. Grandstand gates open and practice starts at 5 PM. The first race hits the track at 6:30 PM.
The following week, Whelen Night, the American TQ Midget Series joins the action for the first of three appearances this year, while the Bandoleros are idle.
