2006 Press Release

Chemung Car Show April 22-23 First Order Of 2006 Business
by Carol Houssock

(Chemung, NY) Mixed among the boutiques and department stores making up the Arnot Mall in Horseheads, NY, shoppers will soon see the smorgasbord of racecars that compete at Chemung Speedrome.  Spring has sprung and the Speedrome management team is ready to kick off the 2006 racing season at their annual car show.  To be held on Saturday, April 22nd and Sunday, April 23rd, the show enables race fans and casual shoppers to mingle amid some of the finest asphalt racecars anywhere.

The show, the annual pre-season energizer for Speedrome action, features a couple new elements this year.  “We moved the show back three weeks later than we first anticipated,” Promoter Chris Zacharias explained.  “We did this to give our race teams extra time to get their cars ready.”

The later date now has the mall show leading right into the track’s two practice days the following weekends (Saturday, April 29th and Saturday, May 6th).  Those practice sessions offer free grandstand admission and an excellent preview of the competitive spirit that will take over at the May 13th season opener.

Track owner Bob Stapleton is also offering teams competing at the Speedrome a jump start on the season.  “We had originally announced 5 points would be awarded to teams participating in our show,” he said.  However, Stapleton notified race teams that the bonus will now be twenty-five points.  He added that there will be other bonus point opportunities throughout the season this year.

The mall show is designed to both promote the southern tier’s finest racing facility and to give something back to the many sponsors upon whom the racers depend.  “We do this to promote the speedway and also give our race teams a chance to show their nice new machine with new paint, logos and sponsors names.  This is a great opportunity for them to show off that car they’ve been working on all winter,” Stapleton added.

Cars will stage at 9:30 Friday evening and be on display during regular mall hours on the 22nd and 23rd.

Be there, bring the camera, and let the show begin.
