The Snell Family 3 Strong at the Drome in 2014 by Ray Hodge
Veteran Owner/ Driver Joe Snell will be back at Chemung in 2014 with sons Jake and Dusty along side. All three Snells will compete weekly this year bringing all 3 Monte Carlo Super stocks to the track every Friday night.

Joe Snell, the Owner of RC Welding Supply began his racing career in 1975 running Karts at the Hughesville Kart Club in Hughesville PA. After 4 years and two championships in the Kart, Joe moved on to what was then called the Sport Stock division at the Shangri La Speedway in Owego NY until 1982 when he decided to take some time off from driving. He wouldn’t go far, with racing in his blood, Joe would lend a helping hand to several other drivers including Ed McGuire, Harry Benjamin and Wayne and Bucky Edwards in several different types of cars. In 2000 Joe returned to the newly renamed Tioga Speedway in Owego in a Modified he purchased from Elmira’s Chuck Winslow. He would run the Modified division there awaiting the opening of the new Chemung Speedrome scheduled to open for the 2001 racing season. From 2001 through 2006 Joe would run the B-Mod division at both Chemung and Tioga Speedway with much success. Full Story

Four Cylinder Champion Morich Looking Ahead to 2014 by Ray Hodge
Back to back track Championships in two different divisions in two years is just the beginning for Horseheads High School Sophomore Nick Morich. The 15 year old from Horseheads has been racing since he was 10. He started racing go Karts and had a very successful start, racing at Cooks and Moes Karting tracks, Nick would win 9 out of 14 features in his first year. I have to say he showed me some serious talent says Nicks father Bill Morich who also says Nick has worked very hard to get where he is today.

Nicks talent and desire took father and son on a trip to South Carolina where they looked at and purchased an INEX Bandolero. At the age of 12, Nick would begin racing the Bandolero at the Chemung Speedrome. In 2013 Nick ran the entire season at Chemung and in a very close battle, he would win the track Championship in the Bandolero over close competitor and friend David French. Full Story

Carol Houssock Returns to Chemung for 2014 by Ray Hodge
With the ongoing changes for the 2014 season at the Chemung Speedrome, long time race Announcer Carol Houssock will make her return and be the voice of the Chemung Speedrome in 2014. Carol has spent the last several years as the track Announcer at the Clinton County Speedway on Friday nights and on Saturday nights as the Co Announcer at Shangri-La 2, filling in for long time Race Announcer Al Robinson who is recovering from a stroke. After some changes at Clinton County and the opportunity becoming available at Chemung, Carol made the difficult choice to not return to Clinton County and start her 20th season as a track Announcer at the Chemung Speedrome, the track she called home for many years. Houssock says she is very excited to return home to Chemung and be reunited with Dano Williams as the Co Announcer for 2014. Full Story

Zacharias Dedicates Championship Season To Grandmother by Ray Hodge
For the first time in his racing career, Jimmy Zacharias would start his racing season without the presence of his grandmother by his side. Shirley Zacharias lost her courageous battle with cancer just months before the 2013 season began. That loss would leave a large void for the entire Zacharias family and with that emptiness, Jimmy would dedicate his entire season to his rock, Grandmother Shirley Zacharias.

Coming up just a few points short of a championship at Chemung in 2012, Jimmy would come back and dominate the entire 2013 season in the Sunoco Modified division. His season started in the warmth of Florida as he would run the Whelen modified tour race at the Daytona international speedway in February. A tough finish there would send Jimmy and crew back to New York to begin his run towards a Chemung title as well as running for the New York State championship. Full Story

Chemung Looking Ahead To 2014 With Off Season Improvements by Ray Hodge
A great 2013 season came to an end at the track Championship Banquet in November. Track owner John White, very happy with the 2013 season is already looking ahead to the 2014 season with some big Improvements at the track during the off season.

A brand new 40 by 60 foot multi-purpose Tech and Storage building has been completed. The building is located outside of turn 3 and 4 in the Legend pit area. The building is a much needed addition to the Speedrome and will be put to work right away in 2014. The 16 foot high building was originally slated to be erected in the infield but after a lot of consideration, the plan was changed to put the building outside of the track so that fans would still have an open view of the entire track.
